5 ways to pass the time with paracord

Already fed up of social distancing? We hear you. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, people are staying indoors and looking for new ways to pass the time. We’re all at a loose end and the boredom may already be setting in. Which is why, to do our bit, we thought it was a good idea to come up with a few ‘rope activities’ for you to try.

Here at Paracords Direct, it’s business as usual. We’re operating a near-normal service and have plenty of stock in our warehouse. Deliveries are available throughout the UK and new paracord can be at your front door in just a matter of days. So, why not give our ideas a go?

Invest in a couple of cheap cords and while away those extra hours.

  1. Arts and crafts

We’re all feeling a bit anxious at the moment – which makes arts and crafts a particularly good idea. Not only will a new project distract you from the surreal situation, it will encourage mindfulness and help you to relax. Both cotton cord and coloured polypropylene cord are great supplies to have to hand. Just do a quick online search for rope crafts and choose something fun and creative!

  1. Macramé

This is a rope activity that has grown in popularity over the last few years. Perhaps it’s something you’ve wanted to try, but just haven’t had the time? Well – now is your chance!

To get started, you need scissors, a wooden dowel and braided cotton cord. It’s also worth checking out our absolute beginner’s guide to macramé. This features on our sister website, Ropes Direct, and offers clear step-by-step instructions. Use this unique opportunity to get to grips with the basics and, by the time you’re out of isolation, who knows what pretty items you will have made.

  1. Exercise

The new rules state that we can leave the house for one form of exercise per day. But if you’re missing the gym – and a quick stroll isn’t enough – why not invest in shock bungee cords?

These are a much cheaper alternative to resistance bands and are a great way to do some strength training at home. Again, you’ll find countless tutorials online which demonstrate the basic exercises. Just push back the furniture in your lounge or step out into the garden and give them a shot.

Alternatively, you could invest in a length of jute rope and try some rope exercises, such as skipping or arm waves. These will get your heart pumping in no time, as well as release ‘feel-good’ endorphins to boost our mood.

  1. DIY jobs

Got a few odd jobs that need doing around the house?

It may not be the most exciting activity, but it will be the most satisfying – and whilst you’re spending so much time at home, there’s no point avoiding them any longer. Embrace your inner DIY expert and get them done.

Perhaps there’s a photo frame that needs hanging? Or a light switch pull cord that you need to fix? If so, nylon cords – such as those available at Paracords Direct – could be useful. Or maybe you want to sort out the garden in time for summer? High-quality jute rope is a quick and easy way to refresh the outdoor space, perhaps adding decoration or sectioning areas with a rope fence.

  1. Rope tricks

This particular rope activity won’t be to everyone’s taste. But, with so much spare time on your hands, why not have a little fun and try your hand at rope magic?

All you need is a couple of magician’s cords. Practice as much as you can. In most cases, the tricks aren’t as difficult as they look and we have an online beginner’s guide to help. Then, when the lockdown is over – and we’re allowed to meet with friends – you can impress them with your new party trick!

Buy ropes and cords for your new pastime

If you have any questions about the rope activities listed above – or are unsure which cords to buy for each – please feel free to get in touch.
